A Running Festival with Country Character
There are running events, and then there is Carcoar.
Set among open farmland, undulating country roads and one of the Central West’s most beautifully preserved historic villages, the Carcoar Cup offers a race-day setting quite unlike the city.
Expect a varied course of bitumen, dirt tracks, hills, valleys and sweeping rural scenery, taking runners through Carcoar, Neville and the surrounds of Mount Macquarie.
Just as memorable is the atmosphere around the course. Volunteers, locals and supporters come together each year to cheer runners on, giving the event the warm community feel that has become part of its character.
Over the years, the Carcoar Cup has also received numerous regional event accolades, including Community Event of the Year and NSW Regional Flagship Event recognition.
Choose Your 2026 Carcoar Cup Event
You do not need to be an experienced marathon runner to take part.
The 2026 program includes six different race options, giving everyone from young runners to seasoned marathoners a chance to join in.
Carcoar Cup Marathon | 42.2km
Start: 8:00am
The headline event begins on Belubula Street in Carcoar.
The full marathon takes runners across changing terrain and plenty of elevation, combining sealed roads, dirt tracks and the rolling countryside that has made this race so well known.
A six-hour cut-off applies to the full marathon.
Teams Marathon | 42.2km
Start: 8:00am
Want to take on the marathon without running all 42.2 kilometres yourself?
The Teams Marathon gives friends, family members or colleagues the chance to share the experience and tackle the marathon together.
It is an ideal option for groups looking to be part of the main event while making race day a team effort.
Half Marathon | 21.1km
Start: 8:45am from Neville
The half marathon begins in nearby Neville before making its way through the countryside towards Carcoar.
It still delivers plenty of the scenery, atmosphere and undulating terrain of the longer course, with a more approachable 21.1km distance.
10km Special
Start: 9:30am
The 10km Special begins from the Mandurama and Fell Timber Road area before heading towards the finish in Carcoar.
It is a great middle-distance option for runners wanting to experience race day without committing to a half or full marathon.
Carcoar to Creek Dash | 6km
Start: 8:45am
Starting from Belubula Street, the 6km Carcoar to Creek Dash is a scenic shorter-distance event and a great choice for newer runners, casual runners or anyone simply wanting to be part of the day.
The event organiser describes the festival as offering something for every level of runner, from the 6km through to the marathon.
Carcoar Cup for Kids | 1.8km
Start: 8:15am
The youngest participants get their own moment on race morning too.
The 1.8km Carcoar Cup for Kids is a family-focused event designed to encourage children to get outside and enjoy being active.
An adult can also accompany a child for an additional registration fee, although accompanying adults are not timed and do not receive a finisher medal.

Make a Weekend of It
Race day might be the reason for the trip, but Carcoar itself is worth taking a little extra time to explore.
The historic village is one of the most intact heritage villages in Australia, surrounded by beautiful Central West countryside. Between race activities, take a wander through the village, explore the local shops or visit some of Carcoar’s historic attractions.
Race Hub highlights several local experiences, including the Carcoar Court House Interactive History Exhibition, Stoke House Stable Museum, Toy Museum and Carcoar Dam.
Nearby villages including Millthorpe and Blayney also make an easy addition to the weekend.
Or return to Orange after race day and reward yourself with a long lunch, a relaxed afternoon in town or a glass of cool-climate wine.
Stay in Orange for the Carcoar Cup
With Carcoar around half an hour from the major regional centre of Orange, staying in Orange gives you an easy base for race weekend while putting the region’s restaurants, cafés, shops and wineries within reach once the running is done.
Located just moments from the heart of Orange, de Russie Boutique Hotel offers 25 self-contained suites and spacious apartments, combining the convenience of apartment-style accommodation with the warmth of a boutique hotel.
For a race weekend, those little practical details can make all the difference.
Guests can enjoy:
- Kitchen or kitchenette facilities
- Complimentary Wi-Fi
- On-site parking
- A central Orange location
- Four complimentary 22kW EV charging stations for guest use, available on a first come, first served basis
Whether you are travelling solo for the marathon, sharing the weekend with friends or bringing the family along to cheer, there is space to settle in before race day and somewhere comfortable to return to afterwards.
After the Finish Line
Once the medal is around your neck and the running shoes have been put away, there is no need to rush home.
Stay another night and enjoy a slower side of the Orange region.
Spend the afternoon wandering through Cook Park, book a table at one of Orange’s celebrated restaurants, browse the boutiques around town or venture out to a nearby cellar door.
If you have another day to explore, nearby Millthorpe makes an easy country drive, while Orange’s surrounding wine region offers plenty of opportunities for a relaxed post-race afternoon.
Sometimes the best part of a race weekend begins once the race itself is over.
Planning Your Carcoar Cup Weekend
A few simple things are worth keeping in mind before race day.
Collect your bib on Saturday if you can.
Early collection is available between 12pm and 5pm at the Carcoar Court House and can make Sunday morning considerably easier.
Prepare for changing terrain.
The courses include a mix of bitumen, dirt tracks, hills and undulating country roads.
Check the weather.
Race Hub notes that historical event-day temperatures have generally ranged from approximately 8°C to 22°C. Conditions can vary, so check the forecast closer to the event.
Leave the headphones behind if possible.
Event organisers strongly advise against using earphones so runners remain aware of their surroundings throughout the course.
Book accommodation early.
With runners, families, volunteers and supporters travelling into the region, it is worth organising your Orange stay well before race weekend.

Run, Recover and Stay a Little Longer
Whether you are chasing a marathon finish, sharing the kilometres with your team, introducing the kids to their first event or cheering someone special across the line, the Carcoar Cup is a wonderful reason to spend a spring weekend in the Central West.
